Hi, Kirk here, just thought I would tell you a bit about myself.
I bought my first race bike (1991 Honda RS125) in Feburary 2005. During the year I competed in many club events at Ruapuna and Levels. This was a big learning curve and I got to form quite a close relationship with the tarmac on many occasions. At the end of the year I competed in three of the five NZ Superbike Championship rounds (Pukekohe, Manfeild and Ruapuna). Due to reliability and crashing issues I was only able to gain a handful of finishes with a best of 7th at Manfeild. I also competed at the Wanganui and Paeroa battle of the streets. Finishing a creditable 20th in the Formlua 3 class at Wanganui up against 400's and 650's. At Paeroa however it was a different story, after qualifying 7th I crashed during the first race and broke my wrist.
Roll on April 2006 and it was time to upgrade to some better machinery, I imported a 2001 Honda RS125 from Japan. This was a very much superior bike in all aspects of reliability, speed and handling.
That year I competed in multiple club events to develop my skills and adapt to the new bike. All this with the goal of being ready for the national championships in January to March of 2007. Things didn't quite work out as planned in the championship (as can be read about here) and in the end I finished 6th overall with a best result of 3rd in the NZTT at Pukekohe, which was consequently the final race of the season.
Following the 2007 nationals season I had a nasty accident at Taupo racetrack in April and consequently broke my collarbone. After recovering from that the buildup had all been in aid of racing in the support 125GP class at the Australian MotoGP event held at the famous Philip Island racetrack. The track is renowned as being one of the best of the world and I was able to race there on the weekend of the 10th to 14th of October 2007.
