Here is some information about my new addition to the stable.
The bike is originally a 2007 Suzuki GSXR600. It is however modified to fit into the New Zealand Formula 3 rules. The rules state that a multi cylinder bike must have a maximum displacement of 450cc. That can be satisified by disabling one cylinder of a four cylinder 600cc engine.
This was first tested by Chris Osbourne from Ozzy Performance to great success at the 2009 New Zealand Superbike Championships. With up and coming rider Glen Skachill on board the new "Ozzy 450" he proceeded to set the F3 field alight. Glen set the lap records at the final two rounds (Manfeild and Pukekohe) and push ultimate Formula 3 winner Glen Williams, riding a SV650, very close in the final six races of the championship.
After a fairly rough 2009 season on my 125GP bike I decided I was ready for a change and contacted Chris Osbourne to get more information regarding the modifications. A bike was bought and Chris carried out the modifications. I debuted the new machine at Round 5 of the 2009 Vic Club Winter Series and went on to set the fastest time in qualifying and win all three F3 races for the weekend. Proving the concept and how well suited the race bred GSXR setup is to F3.
